Love Letters from the Baroque
Lettera amorosa is the title of a work by Claudio Monteverdi, composed in the groundbreaking new style of recitar cantando, in which a text is sung in a manner closely resembling natural speech. During the early seventeenth century, a number of Italian composers set such declarations of love to music in the form of madrigals and cantatas. The genre may be described as miniature vocal dramas, allowing performers considerable freedom to interpret and bring the text to life. This repertoire also represents the starting point of the musical reforms that came to define the Baroque period.
Performers:
Elin Aase (soprano), Henrikke Gjermundsen Rynning (viola da gamba) and Erik Skanke Høsøien (lute).
The concert is presented in collaboration with MUST (Museum Stavanger) and is supported by the Arts Council Norway, Stavanger Municipality and Rogaland County Council.
